Even those who aren’t too familiar with Jaguar cars will readily admit that the company knows how to make a gorgeous car. Those of us lucky enough to have been behind the wheel of a Jaguar F-TYPE know that the beauty isn’t just skin deep. Sure, its looks rival classics like the Jaguar XKSS and Jaguar XKE (AKA the Jaguar E-TYPE). What’s more important is that its drive is just as thrilling. A mildly refreshed version, the 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE, will be available soon to the drivers served by Jaguar Peabody. Here’s what’s on tap.
The biggest change for the coming model year is a 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE 400 Sport that’s slated to be built for one year only. As you might’ve guessed, it’s powered by a 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine that puts out 400 horsepower. Transmission options are limited — there’s only an eight-speed automatic available — but you’ll be able to choose between standard rear-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. The 20-inch wheels feature Super Performance brakes, and there’s also a Configurable Dynamics system. The color palette is likewise limited (to silver, black, or white), though there’s trim-specific yellow badging for variety’s sake.
Other changes are minor by comparison. Two models (the base and F-TYPE S trims) have been sidelined, replaced by a Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic model. The six-speed automatic transmission pairs nicely with either of two V6 engines (340 or 380 horsepower respectively). In common with the 400 Sport trim, you also have a choice of AWD or rear-wheel drive.
The styling gets a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it refresh with some mild style updates. There are new LED headlights, and a new infotainment system called Jaguar Touch Pro. Slimline seats make an appearance, making the car both lighter and a bit more comfortable. Another treat: the GoPro ReRun app, which combines that company’s signature camera with throttle, steering, speed and other data to the footage captured while you’re on the move.
