Sometimes Jaguar makes news in a big way. At other times, the company does smaller things that could easily fly under the radar but that we think are newsworthy nonetheless. What follows are a few of those shorter bits and pieces that the staff here at Jaguar of Peabody thought were worthy of note, covering some of the latest tech and newest Jaguar models.

First up is the impending New York International Auto Show, which starts on March 25 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Three new models will be shown there, each slated for the 2017 model year: the Jaguar F-TYPE SVR, the Jaguar F-PACE, and of course the 2017 Jaguar XE. Since these haven’t yet made their way to Jaguar dealers in Massachusetts, their appearance at the Javits Center makes for an excellent first opportunity to see each up close for the first time. Just as a reminder, you can visit Jaguar of Peabody to reserve these cars, or find out more on our website.

Next, we have news about the Jaguar XJ. If you’ve been watching the brand closely, you’ve noticed a profusion of new models, and that the company has ushered most of its legacy models into their next generations. The last holdout has been the Jaguar XJ, but that’s about to change. Per International Business Times, the Jaguar XJ will enter its next generation with the 2019 model year. While specifics are understandably scarce at this point, we’d be willing to bet on two things: a new powertrain, and the same judicious use of aluminum that’s reduced weight on much of the rest of the Jaguar lineup.

Finally, there comes an announcement that Jaguar will be entering the world of wearables some time this summer. The company has announced an app that leverages users’ Android Wear smartwatches to locate their Jaguar, to remotely start the car, and to activate the climate controls remotely. Users will also be able to check fuel levels, and lock or unlock the doors. We can see this being a boon for the forgetful — if you can’t find your car, or find it only to realize you’ve locked your keys inside, this app could be a lifesaver — and for those of us who like to travel light, since it eliminates the need to carry a bulky keychain if you’re out for a hike or a jog. The remote start will be especially welcome during cold winters and hot summers.

Much of what we’ve listed here is just over the horizon. To see what Jaguar is up to in the here and now, visit the Jaguar of Peabody showroom at 247 Newbury Street in Peabody, Massachusetts today.
