As one model year draws to a close and a new one is nearly upon us, we’re seeing indications of what’s next for several major auto makers. Jaguar is no exception. If the 2016 Jaguar F Type is a fine specimen of a car — and we’d argue that it’s one of the best out there — the upcoming Jaguar F Type SVR will not only up the ante for Jaguar, but it will put the rest of the industry on notice as well. Yes, it looks to be just that good.

Jaguar only bestows the SVR badge on the best of the best. These are cars designed to outdo even the brand’s high performance standards. The F Type SVR would reportedly reduce weight while adding an up-tuned 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces up to 600 hp. That will be combined with improved handling, better aerodynamics, and better 0-60 and track times.

The F Type SVR has been spotted in the wild, albeit heavily camouflaged. Jaguar has notched seven Le Mans victories in its history, so it’s fitting that the car has been spotted on the Nurburgring, being put through its paces. If the prototype is any indication, the styling of the SVR variant is more aggressive, especially in the front fascia, and it also features a fixed rear spoiler. Of interest to drop-top lovers, the F Type SVR also appears as though it will be available as a convertible.

At Jaguar of Peabody, we know that Jaguar cars are a bit like children. We’re supposed to love them all equally. And while we adore the 2016 Jaguar F Type, we have to admit we’re waiting on our new arrival with bated breath. In the meantime, come to our lot the next time you’re in the Nashua area and take a test drive to whet your appetite for speed and performance.
