Rumors of an all-electric Jaguar vehicle have circulated for quite some time. First, we were told that a Jaguar electric sedan would be the first off the line. Then, it was the Jaguar E-PACE. The company has finally put an end to the rumors by confirming that the Jaguar E-PACE has been given the green light for production. Excitement is already building at Jaguar Peabody.

This is hardly a surprise given that car makers from budget to high-end luxury are all developing EVs. The fact that Jaguar also recently entered Formula E Racing further tipped the company’s hand, since it was assumed that those cars would be test beds for cutting-edge technology that would eventually find its way to the company’s production cars. Given the long partnership between the brand and Williams Advanced Engineering, that’s welcome news indeed.

The news is no less exciting though. Here’s what we know: the new crossover will be smaller than the 2017 Jaguar F-PACE, but will share much of its design language. A production concept for the Jaguar E-PACE is due by the end of 2016, with the first models scheduled to ship in 2017 for the 2018 model year.

The E-PACE name is conjecture at this point. With that said, it’s an educated guess given that Jaguar has already trademarked the name. What’s more, it fits the company’s existing nomenclature and the E-for-electric association of the name is a natural fit.

We’ll have more information about the Jaguar E-PACE as it becomes available, including when you can expect to see the new crossover at Jaguar dealers in Massachusetts. If your Jaguar XJ is due for replacement or your Jaguar XF is coming off lease, this may be worth waiting for.
