Road & Track’s Máté Petrány recently caught up with Ian Callum at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Their conversation is worth reading in its entirety, since it covered a lot of ground and previewed some coming arrivals at Jaguar Peabody. Here are a few key takeaways.

Jaguar XJ

The Jaguar XJ has a history that spans five decades, and by Callum’s own admission, the current generation is getting a bit long in the tooth. He’s not dwelling on age, however, preferring to look ahead to the next iteration instead, promising “a step forward” in terms of design and performance.

Jaguar F-TYPE

The car that reminded many drivers what they loved about new Jaguar cars, the Jaguar F-TYPE is due for a next-generation model. But Callum is already looking beyond that, saying, “For the F-Type replacement, we have various projects going on. Experiments. We’ll see. But what I can tell you is that interiors are gonna take on a whole new level. Our interior design in the studio at the moment is fantastic.”

Other Jaguar Models

Facelifts of the Jaguar XE and Jaguar XF are coming “relatively soon,” with major improvements coming to their interiors. Left to his own devices, however, Callum would go in another direction altogether, saying he would “like to do a mid-engine-style electric car, I think that would be the ultimate for me. Like a C-X75 [the concept car shown at the top of this page]. You know, mid-cabin, mid-engined proportions, but electric.”

We’ll second that. Christmas is right around the corner, after all, and it’s not too soon to make our wish list, is it? If you’re working on yours or shopping for someone special, visit Jaguar Peabody at 247 Newbury St. today.
